RUNDGRENRADIO.COM ANNOUNCES 2014 BIRTHDAY BASH Unfortunately, due to Todd's busy schedule we were unable to secure a Todd concert this year for Labor Day weekend (8/30 & 8/31).  Several fans asked us to throw a party anyway and that's exactly what we are going to do!   This year the party will be held in Boston, MA and although Todd will not be involved we have lined up some great entertainment and activities to help us celebrate the music of Todd Rundgren and Utopia!  We will have a Kasim Sulton solo performance (debuting his new CD, 3) on a Boston Harbor cruise boat that's rented out just for our group!  We will also have performances by two different Todd/Utopia tribute bands, Gary Backstrom's Road To Utopia and The Hermits Of Mink Halloween!  There's also an excursion to visit the RA pyramid and meet its owner. Message from Todd : "We've gotten a lot of inquiries about the details of daily life at camp this year. As a reminder, we are expecting many of the campers to come prepared to entertain, enlighten and express the talents and interests that may go unappreciated in the world outside of our Mythic Retreat. But that aside, we do have daylight to fill up. So let's imagine a typical day. Firstly, day one will not be typical. With campers arriving at various times and trying to get settled in, it's not practical to schedule important activities that everyone might like to attend. Ergo, that evenings entertainment will be presented by us, your humble hosts. "What might that be?" you may reasonably ask. At this point… unpredictable. Post breakfast on day two, and most days after, we'll announce a schedule of off-campus activities that you may sign up for. Such may include horseback riding, wine tasting, beach visits, San Simeon tours etc. There will also be a daily hike starting from Cambria to who-knows-where. Crafts will become a more significant part of camp life, and we'll have many counselors on hand and materials for you to create something that will last past Cambria. We are also going to have a few formal presentations that involve future camper participation. Principally, we're going to update you on the Spirit of Harmony Foundation, which has just been officially granted non-profit status by the IRS- in record time, no less. Hey folks, not sure if you are aware of this or not but we are hosting an RR BDAY BASH on Labor Day weekend in the Boston area. Todd will NOT be attending and there will not be a Todd gig surrounding it like usual. What can I say? The man is busy busy busy! So, this is more of a fan gathering kind of thing but we had enough requests for it that we went ahead and started putting it together.

We will have entertainment that includes but is not limited to: Kasim Sulton,Gary Backstrom's Road To Utopia band, and the Hermits Of Mink Halloween! We are also visiting the RA pyramid!

We have over 20 solid commitments which is enough to pull this off and we appreciate those folks being willing to attend something of this nature despite the no Todd factor. We could use another 20 or so to do some o the things we really wanted to do like a 3-4 hour private yacht/cruise boat dinner deal with Kasim performing. We can't pull that off without enough people. It's not cheap but in our opinion it's worth it to do something so unique and fun that could arguably be a once in a lifetime deal. So,tickets are currently on sale for the weekend event at $300 each and that would include everything including the dinner cruise. If we don't get enough peeps we will have to ditch the cruise and will of course drop the price. If you sign up for both days the price breaks out to $150 a day for the 2 day event. That's really not bad when you think about what all you would be getting. This would include some meals, entertainment, cake, laminate, tshirt, and more.

We get that many of you are going to Cambria and can't make this one and that's cool but we also know many of you couldn't afford Cambria or couldn't get the time off to go.

So, bottom line is we are looking for a few more takers on this wonderful plan we have put together. We even have a payment plan system for you if desired - we really just need a firm commitment # of people so we can book this boat or ditch the idea. We thought we had that number but some folks seemed to disappear when it was time to actually make a move to show their commitment. Such is life in the world of Facebook lol.

Photo: Rob ShanahanRingo Starr is once again ready to get by with a little help from his musical friends, as the rock legend kicks off a brand-new North American tour with his All Starr Band tonight in Rama, Canada. Todd Rundgren has been a member of this All Starr Band lineup since 2012, and he says playing in the group is “the best gig you could have.”

He tells ABC News Radio that Ringo pretty much treats everyone in the band as equals, and that includes the Beatles drummer himself.

“There’s no kind of, like, Ringo class and our class,” explains Rundgren. “We stay at the same hotels that he stays in. We fly in the same plane that he flies in…You know, it’s not ‘I’m the star and the boss and you guys just work for me.’ He’s very…proud of the fact that this is a real band and he’s part of it.”

Todd, of course, seems grateful to be part of the All Starr Band too, explaining somewhat jokingly that he almost didn’t meet Starr’s conditions for being a member of the group.

“Ringo’s criteria for you getting in the band is you have to have at least three hits, and I have just barely three hits,” Rundgren says with a laugh. Among Todd’s tunes that are featured in the usual All Starr Band sets are “I Saw the Light” and “Bang the Drum All Day.”

The current incarnation of the All Starr Band also features Totoguitarist Steve Lukather, ex-Santana and Journeysinger/keyboardist Gregg Rolie, Mr. Mister frontman Richard Pageand renowned session drummer Greg Bissonette. The lineup had remained completely intact from 2012 until just recently, when musical director and multi-instrumentalist Mark Rivera had to bow out because of his commitments as a key member of Billy Joel‘s touring band.

Rundgren, who played in two previous versions of the All Starr Band, says this incarnation boasts a special chemistry.

“Everyone just kind of clicked at the first rehearsal,” he points out. “We all get along really well with each other. We’ve all got a sort of a broad set of skills so that we all come off looking equally strong in certain ways.”

As for Ringo, Rundgren says he’s an absolute delight to be around, which makes for a very happy and harmonious experience on the road.

“[On] the tour now, he’s clowning around with us, he’s taking pictures and making jokes with our guests…and just being really friendly with them,” says Todd. “So you can see that he really cares about this whole ‘Peace and Love’ idea…and he’s trying to make himself the embodiment of it, in a sense. And it’s really inspiring to see.”

Ringo Starr’s All Starr Band’s North American summer tour is scheduled through a July 19 concert at the Greek Theatre in Los Angeles. The group also has just announced a fall leg that gets under way on October 2 in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and runs through an October 23 performance in Clearwater, Florida.
