I meant to circle back after the Philly show-it really does come off a lot better live. I listen to the symphony disc far more than to 'State,' but I enjoyed the 'State' show far more than I expected to.
Which is good since I have tickets to the two AZ shows...
Actually, the encore is the worst part! Horrible, unlistenable versions...this coming from a LONG time TR fan. There are some good songs on State (Imagination,Serious), but I don't know who Todd's selling this album to. Why latch on to a boring trend (EDM),and why try to force us to dance at the show? You have to WANT to dance, not be told "Come on all you zombies-MOVE!!)Some good moments at the show, but overall-worst Todd tour EVER
Todd's been doing EDM since 1972 so he hasn't latched on to anything. I think this new record is great and I'm upset I'm missing this tour. I actually have a better shot of seeing "An evening with... tour" but does not sound as interesting as this. Listen I didn't particularly enjoy NWO after seeing him with the amazing bands from Nearly Human and Second Wind but I have to say--I'm bummed about not seeing this. In terms of taking the hits and moving them to this format. Already been done by other artists -Check out Reconstruction-- I think there are other songs in the catalog that may lend themselves to this format but I love the fact that he has done these rearrangements and continues to examine his catalog of material in new and different ways.
Todd's been doing electronic MUSIC since '72, certainly not electronic Dance music. I DID check out Reconstruction...most TR fans consider this unlistenable. STATE is an interesting album...Todd's always interesting, but Angry Birds? B-A-D.. Party Liquor? B-A-D. The tour has nice moments, of course, but I've never seen so many walkouts! The encore medley was the worst possible versions of these classics, and I DO have an open mind, but when something is bad...it's just plain bad. Re examining his catalog is fine, The execution was lazy, and not creative.
Sorry, but from the comments so far, I must have seen a different gig...Did people not know what to expect by having a listen to the new album? Still, each to his own. It was entertaining, lively, creative, and we had a great time. The 90 minutes passed in a flash. Sure there were walkouts, but then they may have been expecting a Greatest Hits show a la AWATS? Maybe they'd forgotten that Todd likes to push the boundaries and throw a curveball or two? And if he does throw in a few oldies, they get a new treatment. LIGHTEN UP, PEOPLE!! Thank God Todd still bothers to tour. I don't believe I saw another of my "Heroes" announcing a tour after a 10 year absence from the scene!

Wow...all songs from my least favorite albums and I have tickets to three shows...the medley may be my only hope!
Hope it grows on me live!
I'm not a 17 year old techno raver...wishing I had bought tickets to Widespread Panic instead...
Me too, I passed on Gov't Mule for this and I really have no interest in techno at all.
