Top scoop breakdown from RR show this morning ...
1) DJ on tour is Dam Funk
2) Michele Rundgren, Jill Sobule, Rachel Haden, Tal Wilkenfeld, and Janet Kirker are all on the song "Earth Mother".
3) Bobby Strickland is the player for the sax solo (forgot which song)
4) Todd can write ballads blindfolded
5) Todd believes his fans are too sophisticated and smart to get worked up about the RRHOF (something along those lines)
6) Utopia reunion for 2016 not out of the question as long as it's at least a 2 month tour
7) Todd will play some guitar on the Global tour and songs will be from all eras but somewhat limited to what a DJ can produce since there is no band

9) Spirit of Harmony Foundation is looking for corporate/individual sponsors for symposium in Little Rock AR

UTOPIA REUNION!!!!! That would be fantastic, especially if it stars or incorporates the 4 piece incarnation--those were SUCH great albums and songs. Crossed fingers it happens as early as the fall, and they also make a new CD. I think it would revitalize them all. SUCH great musicians. :D
Saw the 2011 Utopia reunion 4 times and if the same lineup was to return and play the same songs I would be more than happy to attend, since the Utopia/Another Live albums are so amazing to see performed. That tour was a great event (please release the Peekskill show, I'm jonesing!) and I would support another chance to see it. Of course it would be great to see Roger again as well, so whatever happens I am there.
TR evidently has been in discussion to reform the 4 piece version but all of them also played in the first version of the band so I think you would get a pretty across-the-board lineup/set list. Along with new stuff I would hope.
I can't wait for the 4 man Utopia version with Willie, the best version of all. State tour was sad, Unpreditable tours are embarrassingly lame, but a reunited Utopia might really cook! thom Jennings is a bogus 'critic' hyping Global, but he is a damn good interviewer and his enthusiasm over a potential Utopia reunion on the RR show was infectious.
I`m sorry, but I can`t work up any enthusiasm for this. I never thought of either version of Utopia as anything but Todd`s back-up band.
Now that all (including the fans) are in our sixties, it`s impossible to imagine this group being anything more than its own cover band (See Rolling Stones and Jefferson Airplane/ Starship).
Yeah, getting old is unpleasant but we all have to deal with it.
Re-running our youthful favorites will neither forestall or nor revered it.
Sorry to be the turd in the punch-bowl.
Of course, the above penultimate sentence should read "...neither forestall nor reverse it."
I can`t type worth shit.
I don't think standing there playing instruments looks sad at all when people get older. You are maybe unfamiliar with Cab Calloway or Duke Ellington or Benny Goodman and their musicians. Anyway if they did reunite they might continue right on writing whatever music they would be writing together if they'd stayed together all this time. It doesn't necessarily mean a rerun of the 80s hits. I doubt he would take it out of the rehearsal hall if they weren't working out. But quit being a performer? hell no.
