Friday, November 7, 2014
Beverly Hills, California - (October 28, 2014) - Singer, songwriter, record producer and prolific instrumentalist Todd Rundgren will auction memorabilia from his personal and professional career at Julien's Auctions in Beverly Hills for the benefit of his Spirit of Harmony Foundation. The collection includes stage played instruments to personal clothing and will give fans and collectors a chance to bid on items which have become synonymous with Rundgren's legendary contributions to the world of music.
Rolling Stone magazine calls Rundgren an eclectically accomplished musician and virtuoso. He has been recording for more than three decades with his influence spanning simple pop to the progressive rock of Utopia. Aside from performing, he has served as producer on some of rock n' roll's most successful releases and is regarded as a pioneer of rock video, interactive CD and Web-based music. In his early career he was ahead of the time sporting Mod haircuts and Beatles-ish pop sound along with a musical sophistication when he formed the band Nazz in the late 1960s. After Nazz broke up, Rundgren formed Runt and hit the Top 20 in 1971 with the single "We Gotta Get You a Woman." In the early 1970s Rundgren had hit singles with "I Saw the Light" and "Hello It's Me." He also is known as a prolific producer with such credits as Meatload's "Bat Out of Hell," Badfinger's Straight Up LP, New York Doll's debut LP, Grand Funk Railroad's "We're an American Band," Fanny's Mother Pride and many others.
Highlights of the Collection of Todd Rundgren which will be offered during the Icons & Idols: Rock n' Roll auction event at Julien's Auctions include a Todd Rundgren video worn "Le Garage" shirt, a Todd Rundgren stage played Italia guitar, a Todd Rundgren original album cover art, a Todd Rundgren Tascam M-2516 mixer and also a Roland RD-300 digital piano, Beatles and Ringo Starr memorabilia, Todd Rundgren achievement awards, a Todd Rundgren stage worn Patti Hobart suit and many other items.
Proceeds from the iconic collection will benefit the Spirit of Harmony Foundation founded by Rundgren in 2013. The foundation's mission is to provide opportunities for personal development and self-expression through the support of music and music education. The Spirit of Harmony Foundation supports the moral imperative of music education and music performance. The foundation nurtures the cultural, academic, social, neurological and personal benefits of music through fundraising, special events, mentoring, advocacy, social entrepreneurship and strategic partnerships. As Rundgren said, "We are less bricks and more mortar, to fill in the cracks, to come in and identify problems and help fix those problems. We are there to add consistent, constant support." For more information on the Spirit of Harmony Foundation go towww.spiritofharmony.org. Auction is over, and you can view the final bids. Interesting. Some suits and a guitar did very well. Many items closed as bargains, less than the cost of the suit brand new.
