3 samples are availabe from the new GLOBAL todd rundgren cd.
Well, there is really only one new track (listed as Not Available). , hence the name of the unavailable new track. The other two are re-mixes (by unknowns to me) of Collide-a-Scope. In addition, the album title appears to be Global Nation, thus the title of the unavailable new track.
OK, I see what`s going on. This is a SINGLE scheduled for release next week. It may also be that, because I`m in the US, the audio clips are inaccessible to me.
I was able to listen to the clips...sadly, the new song (Global Nation) sounds like more of the same State-may be due to the remixes of a State track. Not what I was hoping for based on Thom Jennings' review....but I'm still gonna buy it anyway...
Well, I just heard the fragment from "Global Nation" and I agree that it sucks. Having said that, let`s remember that we`ve heard 30 seconds of an album. Let`s also remember that Thom Jennings is most likely affiliated with the distributing label which is promoting said album with exactly the same adjectives (even phrases!) used to hype State. Let`s wait. The whole thing will likely leak soon and we can judge more fairly.
I've found that even when I do not like the album (State, With A Twist), I enjoy the live show, and sometimes the live show wins me over (did not like Liars upon release, but after the show I liked it a lot more).
I could stomach the electronica if he'd just let his own voice come through-not sure if that's called 'auto-tune" or not, but Todd on his worst voice day live sounds better to me than the vocals on State or (re)Production.
Having done that, my take is that Global is more State-like than not but (unlike its predecessor) includes a handful of songs to which we`ll return. Not what we`d hoped for, by a long shot, `though.
Hey, it's Thom Jennings here and I am in no way shape or form affiliated with the record label.
"Global Nation" is one of the songs that has some elements of "State" but it is not a good representation of the album as a whole. Check and see if you can find samples for "Soothe" and "This Island Earth."
I have been a Todd fan since 1977. I liked a few tracks off State. I've heard samples of all 12 tracks on Global and it sounds much more listenable than State, more like Liars and some hints of ReProduction and The Ever Popular Tortured Artist... I think I'm going to like it. It may not be the Todd I prefer (guitar style from Bat Out Of Hell, Ra, Ooops, Arena, and overall quality of the State bonus CD with The Metropole Orchestra), but I've come to enjoy the ever changing, "unpredictable" Todd Rundgren. What I do miss is a well produced studio album, not just something whipped up on a Mac. Listen to a Steven Wilson or Porcupine Tree CD and you'll see what I mean. I hope Todd finds time for such a project in the near future. Here's the link to all tracks
Having listened to the samples, I quite like "Global". "Evrybody" sounds like a real rocker while "Earth Mother" is full of that Philly soul we've grown to love."Skyscraper" is a catchy pop tune with great background vocals that could be off of the "Hermit" record. "Soothe" is a heartfelt TR ballad...very beautiful. "Holyland" could be "Afterlife" revisited. I liked "State" but I think "Global" is something special for us Rundgren fans.

The above as posted is badly jumbled. The fragment beginning with "hence..." appears out of sequence making gibberish of the first sentence.

The Global Nation cut sounds like an outtake from the execrable State album, sadly more putrid electronica. Depressingly bad.

They are leaking samples a month and a half early? Yikes
