Alas, this album sounds alot like State. I was really banking on something new and refreshing. More generic electronica. Voice sounds strained and uninspired and loveless. Dopey pseudo sounding party anthems trying to have a feel good vibe. Sorry not feeling this one at all. Listen i love Todd Rundgren but I just don't understand this at all. Disappointing

Oh my. Our hero needs to hang it up. The samples indicate more lame electronica tinkering on the computer and tuneless drivel. State, ReProductions, and now this sewage. Sad to imagine one of the great rock/pop talents of all times has reduced himself to a bloated, aging hippie sitting on a stool singing Lorne Greene covers between recording non-danceable dance electronica. Sad.

I actually grew to like ReProductions in spite of its obvious flaws simply because Todd made these songs sound like his. He sounded more engaged than on the later State and from what we`ve heard of Global.
I still hold a small candle of hope for a few songs on the new album, but we`ll see(well, hear).
BTW, the State strobe-and-light presentation was impressive (at least to this old sexagenarian) but I`m passing on the new tour since it`s sounding like the State show redux with added videos. Uh, no thanks. But if you missed it two tears ago, give it a look, especially if you`re younger than me (and Todd).

Sure am feelin' The love of these negative posts. Not sure what your expecting, but
is it such a stretch to hear Todd creating electronically?
I for one thought State was a great record. What self respecting Todd fan can't hear a great hook in a song like Smoke? So narrow minded.
I'm 55 and I think Todd is as relevant now as he's always been.

I only liked one song on it from the clips I heard. I just heard an interview where he sounded a lot more excited about a possible 4 piece version reunion of Utopia than he did about anything else. He picked a DJ who is known more for his R & B style than his rap. Dam Funk's very old school and that should work well with Rundgren's older material too.

Utopia just needs a label deal and at at least two months of touring to make the rehearsals worthwhile. Not that they don't have plenty of songs as it is but a new album would be terrific. Crossed fingers!

I just listenedd to the samples and I'll tell you what I heard. It sounds like the material is decent, however, someone needs to confiscate the Reason software from Todd. That software is for people that don't know how to play music and it seems Todd is relying to heavily on this technology to release music on the cheap. Gotta use real musicians like the old days. Give John Siegler a call Todd.

I don't know maybe I'll preview tracks and pick the couple I like when it comes out. I bought State as a full album and only ended up liking a few songs on it. People are mad because he's relying heavily on the tech stuff instead of using real instruments or having some players help him. That cost money and he's been an independent artist for a long time. I'm more picky about his songwriting and whether or not there's any substance to the material. He really hasn't had a substantial album since Liars. That's kind of a long stretch. If anyone could blindside us and put out a really good record right when we've written him off it would be Todd...

Todd making an album of this nature is really the only way he could of produced an album so fast since State. He's been touring his ass off for the past year so I was surprised to hear he even had an album coming out. I think he's been tour for most the year between his ongoing RAB stints and his AUEWTR shows. I saw the last unpredictable eve show and he seemed frustrated and cranky. I agree the techno/electronica is getting old and there's not much focus on substance like there was on say NWO. Ping me, Party liquor, and Angry Birds come on Todd!!! Maybe he should just take a sabbatical to refresh hopefully he's not having to tour to pay bills....
