John Mellencamp Asks Why Todd Rundgren Isn't in R&R Hall of Fame

Because the RRHOF is a meaningless collection of names of just about anyone who has ever released an album.
It took the Velvet Underground something like five rejections before they were (grudgingly) "admitted."
Todd doesn`t need and shouldn`t want such pointless "recognition".

Jan Wenner is a dick with ears, and he decides who gets in, or not. TR is above such nonsense.

He just likes people to say he should be.

Sorry, he doesn't particularly like people to say that. TR has been clear about it pretty often. It will continue to come up but who really cares. The induction does not make for new fans or any appreciable benefits. It is far better & very rare for someone to be awarded the Les Paul Award. Few can be given it & Todd was a natural choice. Such acknowledgement is no based on popularity with the recording industry or the public.
Congrats Todd for all you have done & keeping us guessing what's next. Seeing GLOBAL when you get to Texas !

after reading the reviews of the Global tour Todd has no more business in the RRHOF than he does teaching finance at Yale

Here's a ditty 'bout Todd and Michelle,

Bought a house in Kauai, which cast quite a spell.

They went broke, got thrown out on their asses,

So they went out on tour with wigs and 2 lasses.

hurts so good to trash Global.

It doesn't scan, try this:

"Now here is a ditty 'bout Todd and Michelle.
Bought a house on Kauai, which cast quite a spell.
Then they went broke, got thrown out on their asses,
So they went out on tour with 4 wigs and 2 lasses."

Better?

BTW it is official Michelle auditioned and chose the backup performers personally, and flew to 3 cities to do so: Honolulu, Los Angeles and San Francisco. She admitted this a week or so ago to the press.

Maybe this was Michelle`s last gasp as a comic.
Did anyone ever see this misbegotten idea? I`m terrified to search YouTube for residual evidence.
TR`s taste in women seems to have been in steep decline since his fling with Laura Nyro. First Bebe Buell, then Michelle.
I know, eye of the beholder and all that, but...jeez. I would have thought a measurable IQ might have figured into his calculations at some point.

Maybe he doesn't choose them. Maybe they pick him right out. Michelle already had a husband.

I have seen clips of this tour because I thought the guys on here were kidding...but I could not deny what I heard and saw. I was going to invite my music teacher to one of the shows but I think it would hurt her ears. And she is not a judgmental (or performance-inexperienced) person at all. But her expert assessment of the performances and music might be really disappointing for me to hear so I decided to skip this one and attend with an old friend instead.

I was shocked to learn Michelle scoured the globe to find the 2 talentless backup ladies who can neither sing or dance. Michelle is turning into quite the portly clown. I'm not sure if she is Todd's Yoko, or if she is the enabler for TR's many stupid business decisions, such as the New Cars and this God-awful Global tour fiasco. Never has a worse show been staged by a supposed 'professional' entertainer.

The review in The Buffalo News from April 30TH really hits the nail on the head with every line. Well done Jeff Miers ! From Badgerland

the review from the Buffalo paper is in contrast with the reviews on the Ticketmaster site. those show that long-time TR fans are doing something they have never done before, walk out of the show in droves. It is great to follow the twists and turns of TR, but not into this dark dubstep world with backup singers dressed as streetwalkers with wigs. Ah, no.
